Which packaging stamp do I need?

This is the one thing worth getting right, because the wrong ink on the wrong surface will smudge and you will not know until you have stamped fifty boxes.

• Kraft mailers, cardboard boxes, paper bags, swing tags, tissue paper — a rubber stamp or a matte pre-inked stamp. Porous surfaces absorb water-based ink, so it dries fast and clean.
• Poly mailers, plastic containers, laminated boxes, glossy cartons, foil lids — a permanent pre-inked stamp. Ordinary ink beads up on these and never dries. This is the surface most stamp sellers quietly ignore. We wrote a full guide: How to Stamp Poly Mailers and Glossy Boxes.
• Shipping cartons and large tote bags — a large rubber stamp in 5, 6 or 7 inch. A small stamp looks lost on a big box.

What size stamp for my bags and boxes?

The rule that works: your stamp should be 60–75% of the bag's width.

• Large shopping bag (8 x 10.25") → 6" stamp
• Medium shopping bag (8 x 9") → 5" stamp
• Large flat bag (9.5 x 13") → 6" to 7" stamp
• Small bakery bag (4.5 x 8.5") → 3" stamp

On brown kraft, dark ink reads best — black, navy, forest green or dark brown. Stamps 5" and larger need an oversized ink pad.
