What Size Soap Stamp Do I Need for a 100g Bar?
Share
Quick answer: for most 100g soap bars, a 4cm or 5cm stamp is right. The rule we give every soap maker: your stamp should be about 1cm smaller than the face of the bar you're stamping. Measure the narrower side of that face, take away 1cm, and pick the stamp size closest to that number.
"100g bar" doesn't tell you much on its own. Two soap makers can both sell 100g bars from completely different moulds. One is short and thick, the other long and flat, and the face you actually press into can differ by a couple of centimetres. That's why we size stamps from the bar, not the weight.
The 1cm rule
Leave roughly half a centimetre of plain soap on each side of your logo. That margin does two jobs. It frames the logo so the bar looks finished. And it stops the stamp from pressing right up to the edge, where the soap is weakest and most likely to crack or bulge.
Our acrylic soap stamps are square, so measure the narrower side of the face you'll stamp:
| Narrow side of your bar's face | Stamp size |
|---|---|
| About 4cm | 3cm |
| About 5cm | 4cm |
| About 6cm | 5cm |
| 7cm or more | 6cm |
Round bar? Measure straight across the middle and use the same rule.
Why most 100g bars end up at 4cm or 5cm
Most rectangular 100g bars have a face somewhere between 5cm and 6cm across on the narrow side. Take away 1cm and you land on 4cm or 5cm. If your bar is on the smaller side, go 4cm. If it's wide and flat, 5cm.
Between two sizes? Go smaller. A slightly small logo with a clean border looks deliberate. A logo that runs off the edge looks like a mistake.
Does the logo shape change the size?
Sometimes. A round or square logo fills a square stamp well. A long, thin logo, like a brand name written in one line, has to shrink to fit the width, so the letters end up smaller than you'd expect. If your logo is mostly text, check it's still readable at your chosen size. Our post on designing a logo that stamps cleanly on soap covers this.
Does a bigger stamp cost more?
Not for acrylic. Every size from 3cm to 6cm is ₹745, so pick the size that fits your bar, not your budget. Brass debossing stamps come in 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5cm, from ₹1,550. If you're deciding between the two materials, read acrylic vs brass soap stamps.
Making more than one bar size?
Lots of soap makers sell a 100g bar and a smaller guest or sample bar. One stamp rarely suits both. Acrylic stamps are buy 2, get 1 free, and there's a 3-stamp bundle where you choose the size for each, so you can match every mould. See the custom soap stamps range.
